Crow's Nest Cottage

Eugene, OR // Built by Rainbow Valley Construction

A guest house that's both comfortable and accessible, located on a historic farm property in rural Oregon. This charming guest cottage was built on the site of the original house and is nicknamed the "Crow's Nest."

The cottage was designed to accommodate visiting adult children and their families, but it also employs many aging-in-place principles to provide a comfortable living space for the owners in their later years. The interior of the cottage features a warm, light space with a wood accent wall made of reclaimed decking from the property, handmade tile, and CVG Fir cabinets made in-house. The result is a warm and welcoming space that feels like a true retreat.

On the exterior, the covered front porch takes advantage of the pastoral views and has a woven rebar railing. The sand-finished concrete patio was poured flush with the interior floor for easy wheelchair access and has a series of basalt boulders arranged around the perimeter. The retaining wall is dry stack basalt set at bench height, and the plantings were all done by the homeowners.

Built by Rainbow Valley Design and Construction of Eugene, OR, the Crow's Nest is a testament to the power of collaboration and careful planning. The team at Rainbow Valley worked closely with the homeowners to ensure that the cottage met their needs and exceeded their expectations. The result is a beautiful and functional space that will be enjoyed for years to come.
